Groundbreaking Ceremony

Calvert, Alabama. On Friday, November 2, 2007, Governor Bob Riley joined ThyssenKrupp executives Ekkehard D. Schulz, Chairman of the Executive Board of ThyssenKrupp AG, Karl-Ulrich Koehler, Chairman of the Executive Board of ThyssenKrupp Steel , and Juergen H. Fechter, Chairman of the Executive Board of ThyssenKrupp Stainless to break ground on the site of ThyssenKrupp’s new $3.7 billion carbon and stainless steel processing facility in Calvert, Alabama.

The groundbreaking marks the beginning of construction of the 3,500-acre plant. The Governor and ThyssenKrupp executives were joined by U.S. Senators Richard Shelby and Jeff Sessions; Mobile County Commissioners Merceria Ludgood and Stephen Nodine: Mayors Sam Jones and Cleon Bolden; and Charles McCrary, President of Alabama Power and President of the Economic Development Partnership of Alabama. More than 500 people attended the ceremony to mark this milestone event.
